Youth & Family Director/Camp Director

Mystic, CT

The Ocean Community YMCA, with locations in RI and CT, now has an opportunity for an experienced Youth and Family Director/Camp Director at our Naik Family Branch in Mystic, CT.

This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, exempt, salaried position.

As the Youth and Family Director, you will:

  • Administering, supervising, and/or instructing youth, teen and adult programs
  • Overseeing and coordinating instructional and competitive sports programs.
  • Securing facility rentals with outside organizations
  • Oversite, planning, and implementation of offsite STEM programs
  • Recruiting, hiring and supervising staff in sports programs, enrichment programs, teen center, and STEM programs.
  • Developing and managing program budgets
  • Assist with marketing of programs and distribution of program materials.
  • Managing payroll for support staff
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers.
  • Assist with planning special events including sponsorships and collaborations.
  • Play a leadership role in the Annual Support Campaign for the branch

As the Camp Director, you will:

  • Plan, implement, and oversee Camp Cove, a summer day camp program located on the grounds of the branch
  • Ensure compliance with State of Connecticut regulations for Youth Day Camp.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and coach seasonal support staff including managing payroll
  • Maintain Accreditation through ACA (American Camp Association) for Camp Cove by following all requirements and ensuring compliance
  • Maintain the highest quality programming for campers creating a positive experience
  • Work with families to meet the needs of all campers including adaptive programming
  • Drive camp registration efforts and meet yearly goals
  • Develop and manage Camp budget
  • Market the Camp Cove through marketing materials, social media, and community outreach

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports & Leisure Management, Recreation or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in  youth  programming
  • Experience with seasonal day camp at a director level.
  • Supervisory experience including recruiting, hiring, and training
  • Previous YMCA experience preferred
  • CPR/AED/FA/Emergency O2 Administration Certification required-American RedCross or equivalent-YMCA will train.
